Comprehensive Analysis

What We Test For

Our free water analysis covers everything you need to know about your pool or spa's chemistry.

🎯

pH Level

Measures acidity/alkalinity. Target: 7.2–7.6. Critical for chlorine effectiveness, swimmer comfort, and equipment protection.

Ideal: 7.2 – 7.6
🛡️

Free Chlorine

Your primary sanitizer. Kills bacteria, viruses, and algae. Too low = unsafe water. Too high = skin/eye irritation.

Ideal: 1 – 3 ppm
⚖️

Total Alkalinity

Buffers your pH so it stays stable. When alkalinity is off, pH bounces around unpredictably.

Ideal: 80 – 120 ppm
💎

Calcium Hardness

Too low corrodes surfaces. Too high causes scale. We find the sweet spot for your pool type.

Ideal: 200 – 400 ppm
☀️

Cyanuric Acid (CYA)

Sunscreen for your chlorine. Without it, UV destroys chlorine fast. Too much causes "chlorine lock."

Ideal: 30 – 50 ppm
💧

Total Dissolved Solids

Measures everything dissolved in your water. High TDS reduces chemical effectiveness and causes cloudiness.

Target: Below 2,000 ppm

Professional pool water testing vs home test strips
🔬

Professional Testing vs. Home Test Strips

Home test strips are convenient for quick between-visit checks, but they have limitations. They only measure a few parameters, accuracy varies by brand and storage conditions, and they can't detect issues like high CYA or TDS that are invisible to basic strips.

Our in-store analysis gives you the full picture — six or more parameters tested with professional-grade equipment. It's more accurate, more comprehensive, and it's free. We recommend using home strips 2–3 times a week and bringing a sample to us at least once a month.

  • Home strips: Good for quick pH/chlorine checks between visits
  • Our testing: Complete analysis with personalized recommendations
  • Best approach: Use both — strips at home, professional tests monthly

Water Testing FAQ

Yes, 100% free every time. No purchase required, no strings attached. We've been testing water for free for over 20 years. We want your pool to be perfect — and when you need chemicals, we want you to buy the right ones.
Use a clean plastic container (a water bottle works fine). Collect water from 12–18 inches below the surface, away from return jets and skimmers. About 16oz is plenty. Bring it in within an hour for the most accurate results.
At least once a month during swimming season. Also bring a sample anytime you notice cloudiness, color changes, unusual smells, after heavy rain, or when opening/closing for the season.
Absolutely. We test spa and hot tub water with the same thoroughness. Hot tubs have different ideal ranges than pools (higher sanitizer levels, slightly different pH targets), and our staff knows the difference.
Nope. Walk in anytime during business hours — Monday–Friday 10am–6pm, Saturday 10am–4pm, closed Sunday. Testing takes just a few minutes.
